'Go back to school to plan for India'

Under-fire Australia's top batsmen have been ordered to go back to school and attend a batting camp to prepare for the Test series against India, starting on December 26.

Australia's batsmen collapsed in spectacular fashion to help New Zealand win a Test match on Australian soil for the first time in 26 years this week.

Michael Clarke's side have been particularly exposed by the swinging ball, as highlighted in Hobart, and new coach Mickey Arthur has now arranged a dedicated two-day batting camp to start on December 20.

Five batsmen from the second test in Hobart will be involved, along with 12th man for that Test Daniel Christian and left-hander Shaun Marsh.

The National Selection Panel is scheduled to select the Australia squad shortly before it comes together on December 22.

"Cricket Australia has put together a batting camp to best support our batsmen's preparation for the Vodafone Test series against India," said Cricket Australia's General Manager Pat Howard.

"Michael Clarke, Shane Watson, Ricky Ponting, Shaun Marsh, Mike Hussey, Dan Christian and Brad Haddin will all attend the camp. The camp is designed to complement rather than duplicate the preparation of those batsmen playing in the Chairman's XI in Canberra, which includes David Warner, Phillip Hughes, Usman Khawaja and Ed Cowan.

"This camp has been scheduled prior to the Australian Test squad being announced and then coming together on 22 December. We continue to monitor Shaun Marsh and are hopeful he will be available for this camp."

The camp will give Australia's batsmen more time to focus on their batting, and prepare for task of facing India's fast bowlers like Ishant Sharma.

"We can work on angles that Ishant bowls and how Ishant bowls, try and replicate how he bowls," Arthur explained.

"I think if we can get a couple of extra days into our batters, to sharpen them up and sharpen their techniques up, I think that's going to be invaluable ahead of what is a massive series for Australia."
